February Calendar.pdf diane 2018 A Market for the People!
Mission of the Farm Fresh Mobile Market:
“The Farm Fresh Mobile Market is a sustainable project designed to counteract the inaccessibility of nutritious food in the inner-city of Syracuse through the provision of high-quality, reasonably priced fresh fruits and vegetables to residents at accessible locations. The market also provides information that encourages healthy nutrition.”
With support from the Gifford Foundation, the Farm Fresh
Mobile Market is a collaboration of community residents, funders, educators, and farmers to help address the problem of food disparity with the initial focus being on the Southside of Syracuse where access to grocery stores is extremely limited. It is the intent of the Market’s committee to expand to include other neighborhoods with poor access to grocery stores and fresh produce.
Currently the project’s partners include the Allyn Foundation, Onondaga County Health Department, Wegmans, SUNY Morrisville and the Gifford Foundation. We are constantly looking for new partners and creative ways to better connect with and serve the community. If you would like to be involved please contact Southside Interfaith CDC.
The Farm Fresh Mobile Market was inspired by a similar project launched in Oakland, California by The People’s Grocery. The philosophy behind this project is to bring fresh food and educational information about healthy living to communities lacking the resources to live healthy lives. The was air on PBS recently, Designing Healthy Communities. In 2016 , October , Farm Fresh Mobile was award a grant to purchase a new tuck.
